Extended Range Instructor

The TDI Extended Range Instructor course provides the skills and knowledge to teach divers how to conduct safe and effective dives up to 55 meters/180 feet using air or nitrox, while managing staged decompression. This course qualifies you to lead students through the complexities of deep diving, gas management, and decompression theory, preparing them for a world of advanced exploration.

Duration: 4 Days
Dives: 4 Dives
Age: 18+ years

Rp 19.800.000,00 inc. Tax

Course Highlights

  • Learn how to instruct students in planning and executing dives to 55 meters, covering both the theory and practical application.
  • Teach gas management and how to safely switch between breathing gases at different stages of the dive to minimize nitrogen absorption.
  • Instruct students on decompression theory, including the use of accelerated decompression gases like nitrox or oxygen to reduce overall decompression time.
  • Cover deep diving techniques such as managing narcosis, understanding physiological limitations, and handling equipment failures at depth.
  • Guide students through the complexities of gas planning, including determining the right gas mixtures for deep dives.
  • Supervise staged decompression dives, ensuring students master buoyancy control, ascent rates, and emergency procedures.
  • Conduct thorough pre-dive checks, emphasizing the importance of redundancy and contingency planning for all aspects of the dive.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum age 21
  • Provide proof of 250 logged dives, 25 must be extended range dives
  • Certification as a TDI Extended Range Diver or equivalent
  • Certification as a TDI Advanced Nitrox and Staged Decompression Instructor or equivalent
  • Must have certified 10 students in advanced nitrox diver or decompression procedures diver, a minimum of 5 must be decompression procedures divers

What You Learn

  • How to teach students to safely conduct extended range dives using air and nitrox, with a focus on gas management and switching during the dive.
  • Methods for guiding students through the selection and use of multiple cylinders, and how to manage decompression gases to optimize their dive profiles.
  • Conducting classroom sessions on the physics and physiology of deep diving, narcosis, and gas laws, as well as emergency management procedures at depth.
  • In-water training on managing decompression stress, handling out-of-gas scenarios, and maintaining neutral buoyancy during staged ascents.
  • Instructional techniques for teaching gas analysis, cylinder labeling, and the configuration of twinset or sidemount equipment.
  • How to demonstrate and guide students through problem-solving exercises, including handling equipment malfunctions and managing dive emergencies.
  • Post-dive debriefing techniques to ensure students understand the intricacies of their dives, their performance, and areas for improvement.

HOW TO BEGIN?

Self-Study

Choose between two self-study options: access the TDI eLearning® platform with a full course account or receive a course manual. Study at your own pace before arrival, ensuring you’re well-prepared. Once on-site, you’ll participate in a classroom session with your instructor to review the material and reinforce your knowledge, setting you up for successful hands-on training.

Self-Study time commitment: 12-14 hours

With Your Instructor

Engage in practical, hands-on training with your instructor. You’ll develop and refine essential skills, covering everything from equipment setup to advanced diving techniques. Your instructor will guide you through real-world scenarios, ensuring you’re fully prepared to dive independently. This immersive training builds your confidence and competence, equipping you to safely and efficiently explore the underwater world.

Diving time commitment: 4 Days
